“Reflection” stars my own cat, Sagwa. The way he looks in the mirror is interesting - he seems to recognize me and himself, but he finds the whole thing unremarkable. I couldn’t be more the opposite; I think my reflection is fascinating.
Maybe a little vain, but primarily I think about how weird it is that we see our own reflections so often in daily life. At one time, we might have seen a blurry shape reflected in water now and then. Today we get clear (and even magnified!) reflections of ourself every day. We scrutinize, criticize, and purchase products and procedures to “fix” ourselves, and the magic in seeing ourselves at all is lost.
This piece is about loving our own reflections, getting lost in them, and seeing the beauty of nature within ourselves.
